Even though Disney and Hearst Corporation own ESPN

it may come down to how the joint venture is structured from a liability standpoint. I would assume that Disney and Hearst structured their joint venture in such a way that ESPN would be responsible for its own liabilities. I wouldn't think it would be that much different than when a person decides to go into business for him/herself. Most will set the company up as either LLC, LLP, Inc, or some other form to prevent the company's liabilities from impacting their personal finances. Also, I am assuming that ESPN has its own Tax ID to make things cleaner when filing taxes.
